Biography
Julie Knoll PT NCS is a leading national expert in the field of Neurologic and Vestibular Rehabilitation. She has been a Neuro Vestibular Physical Therapist in the Denver area for her entire 30+ year career. Her practice passion has always been in concussion and vestibular disorders, working in vestibular therapy since 1992 while the field was in its infancy. Julie was one of the first Vestibular Physical Therapists in the United States, identifying early diagnosis of vestibular migraine, persistent post-concussion syndrome, dysautonomia, maladaptive neurovestibular dysfunction (PPPD), and cervicogenic dizziness, developing treatment protocols well in advance of any specifically published programs.
Board certified in Neurologic Physical Therapy since 1997 and Vestibular Physical Therapy since 1998 as a member of the original Vestibular Certification class offered in the United States, her depth of experience is broad. Julie’s personalized and focused review of patients’ history and symptoms, along with the neuroscience of the interplay of the vestibular, visual, autonomic, and cervical systems, resulted in very specific protocols, which led the field in developing the foundational concepts of comprehensive concussion protocol, persistent post-concussion syndrome, persistent postural perceptual dizziness, and the interconnective and inseparable function of the neurological network of the autonomic and vestibular systems. She has presented novel posters and lectures at numerous conferences around the country. She has lectured extensively over the past 30 years as an invited speaker at over 40 seminars, including team training staff for NFL and NHL teams, the NBA ATC association, the Department of Defense, the USOC, and many state and national APTA conferences.
Years of multi-disciplinary team dedication, data collection, and research led to her creation of the CLEARED® Concussion Recovery Program, a comprehensive and detailed algorithm protocol that is continually progressing to push the envelope of best practice in evidence-informed concussion care.
Julie has been recognized for her exceptional dedication to the Physical Therapy profession with an award of Outstanding Physical Therapist by the American Physical Therapy Association, and the APTA Colorado Bob Doctor Service Award in recognition of her contributions to the professional community. She has maintained Neurologic Board Certification by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties since 1997, a continual and rigorous process of maintaining pillars in education, research, clinical excellence, teaching, and mentoring.
